Polar Studios closes fundraiser for Pilot $330 over goal!

Well, thanks, everyone!  Because of your efforts we managed to close our fundraising campaign for the pilot episodes of The Weekly well over our goal!  We raised a total of $830, which put us $330 over our $500 goal.

What is The Weekly, you ask?  The Weekly is a web series which focuses on the comical mishaps of a cartoonist in pursuit of happiness and the cast of characters surrounding him.  For more, check us out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theweeklymovie .

Also, if you haven’t seen our 15-second teaser, here it is!

Here’s the scoop from our page on IndieGoGo:

Our Story

David—the protagonist of The Weekly, a new live action, episodic film from Polar Studios—is a budding cartoonist determined  to get his life together.  It all works on the page, so why is he having such a hard time with the people in his real life?  This strange group has to work together to make sure a local paper gets out on time.  If David has anything to say about it, it will be with the best comics possible! The Weekly rolls out later this year, but funders will be getting a few sneak peeks during this campaign.

The series focuses on the comic mishaps of a cartoonist’s pursuit of happiness and the cast of characters surrounding him:
David is a struggling cartoonist who wants to believe in himself, but really just believes in his drawing ability.
June is her own woman, fiercely intelligent and driven. She is a writer for The Weekly’s blog and shares a surprising number of interests with David.
Matthew is a terrible cook, an incompetent party host, and a mediocre roommate.  All that aside, he is a great best friend to David and a good writer, if he applies himself.
Ry is a terrible person.  He is an even worse cartoonist, despite holding this position at The Weekly.  He hasn’t figured out what he’s good at. He hasn’t had to.
Ted, editor of The Weekly, is both the scariest and the best boss anyone has ever had. He sees the paper’s bottom line and its human factor. He’s also quite… eccentric.
Porter is the universe’s handyman. He seems to be omnipresent and is uncannily wise. He’s also an excellent Salsa dancer.

The Impact
Polar Studios is an emerging production company dedicated to giving new artists a voice and a leg up in their respective fields. It is perfectly sized to be more selective than a vanity press, but more willing to take a risk on unknown talent than the major publishing houses. Polar Studios has already successfully released traditional, web, and motion comics as well as short stories.  We are currently developing cartoons, novels, and films. This will be the first live action, episodic film released by the studio and will be using the talents of artists from around the Southeast.

What We Need & What You Get
We are hoping to raise $1,000 from IndieGoGo, but have limited the IGG goal to ensure partial funding for The Weekly.  We have capital and investors for the company as a whole, but would like to get as much additional funding for this project as possible through DVD presales.

We are primarily seeking funding to pay all of the artists who are dedicating their time and talent to this production.  Next, we’ll be using the money to start an initial release of a DVD Feature Cut of the series, which will be available to funders as soon as it comes out. Finally, any money earned above our goal and not needed specifically for The Weekly will go to help balance out other Polar Studios productions.  Rest assured, every cent raised will be going to enable artists in the Southeast to have their work produced.
